The 90-acre park was a 1953 gift from Adelaide Winslow Harb, given in memory of her mother, Delia B. Powers Winslow, with the understanding that the land would always be used for public recreation. It occupies the peninsula between the Harraseeket River and Casco Bay, reaching out to Stockbridge Point at its tip — a beautiful piece of the Maine coast that the Winslow family gave to the public more than seventy years ago.

The Beach and the Bay

The park’s tidal beach is its centerpiece, best for swimming and wading around high tide, when the bay fills in over the sand and flats. All around are sweeping views of Casco Bay, the mouth of the Harraseeket River, and the wooded islands offshore. A boat launch makes the park a handy jumping-off point for kayakers, paddleboarders, and small boats exploring the bay, and the shore is a fine place to watch the working lobster boats come and go.

Waterfront sites book up fast in summer, so reservations are recommended well in advance.

• There is a small day-use fee in the summer season (with a lower rate for Freeport residents); it is free once the campground closes for the year.
