WINSLOW TAX BILLS WILL BE MAILED NEXT WEEK – The Town of Winslow is scheduled to mail the 2010/2011 tax bills to all property owners next week. Due to the municipality’s reduction in the local budget and the increase in the taxable valuation this year, the Town has been able to maintain a tax rate of .50 per thousand in value. This will be the third consecutive year with no increase in the tax rate.

The percentage of property tax distribution this year is Municipal 34.88%, School 58.39%, County 6.73%.

New this year is a reduction in the homestead exemption from ,000 to ,000 pursuant to a State legislative change effective April 1, 2010. For the Winslow homeowner that did not see a change in their assessment, this will equate to an increase on their tax bill of .50.

Winslow sends one tax bill that allows the taxpayer the option of paying their annual property tax in two installments, the first due October 8, 2010 and the second is due May 13, 2011. Unpaid tax will accrue at an interest rate of 7%.

The Town of Winslow also anticipates an update of all property data to their web site within a week. Interested persons may log onto www.winslowmaine.org/assessing for a link to the data base and updated information.

Anyone with a question regarding property tax due dates and billing, please contact the tax collection office. Anyone with questions regarding the ownership or valuation of their property, please contact the assessor’s office.
